Whistle and Hand
This was my first attempt at working with oil. I had enrolled myself in a class with my mother and law, and the brief was to paint a still life consisting of two objects. I found a hand from a mannequin, and placed a whistle there-in. I was quite satisfied with how this piece came out. What I do like about working with oils is the layering aspect there-off, but the time spent waiting for layers to dry frustrates me a bit. Thus I now work with an acrylic layer first (almost completely finishing the painting). Next I give the canvas a wash of oil colour mixed with linseed, which is then wiped off again, leaving only a thin layer of oil colour. Then I apply my detail work in oil.
